On July 22, the Mid-Atlantic RHEC and the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) hosted the webinar “Mobilizing for Oral Health Equity: An Interdisciplinary Effort” to contribute to the dialogue around oral health disparities. This webinar was moderated by CAPT Elijah Martin, the Regional Minority Health Consultant for HHS Region III. Presenters included Maria Isabel Rego, Founder of Oral Health Equity for All and New England RHEC Co-Chair; Ralph Fuccillo, Chief Mission Office of DentaQuest, President of the DentaQuest Foundation; and Crystal Barksdale, Senior Research Analyst at SRA International.

Speakers explained the root causes of oral health disparities and called on the 200 participants to take action, using a set of clear recommendations for enhanced leadership, networking, and collaboration. An evaluation after the webinar showed that the majority of participants felt that the session equipped them with skills to discuss oral health disease prevention strategies, describe health promotion techniques, and provide recommendations to increase oral health awareness. Participants also reported an eagerness to share information about oral health equity and to integrate oral health concepts into their own work.
