Jonathan Encarnación is the Administrative Director of UPMC for You, a division of UPMC Health Plan. He is responsible for leading the efforts of UPMC Health Plan and its affiliates to build a positive market presence and develop product markets in central Pennsylvania through the identification and engagement of key stakeholders, including community leaders, professional groups, ethnic communities, and consumer groups. He is the host of a monthly TV program, A Su Salud-To Your Health, that is aimed at educating disadvantaged consumers about health and wellness issues with an impact on their quality of life. He formerly directed Centro Hispano Daniel Torres, Inc. (i.e., the Hispanic Center of Reading and Berks County). This organization targets the acculturation and self-sufficiency of U.S. and non-U.S. citizens of Hispanic heritage.

Mr. Encarnación was confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate to serve on the Board of Trustees for Wernersville State Hospital in 2011 and was appointed by Governor Corbett to serve as commissioner for the Sunshine Commission. During Governor Rendell’s administration, he served on the transition team for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and as commissioner for the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. During Governor Ridge’s administration, he served as commissioner for the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs.

Mr. Encarnación received his BA in sociology and Spanish from Texas A&M University and his MBA from Alvernia University. He was a fellow at the John Hopkins University America’s Health Insurance Plans Foundation’s Minority Management Development Program and a fellow at Harvard.
