Deidra Lemons Johnson is Senior Advisor of Operations, Strategy and Analytics in AARP’s national headquarters in Washington, DC. AARP is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that helps persons over 50 years of age have independence, choice, and control. These strategies have been demonstrated to be beneficial and affordable at both individual and societal levels. AARP has offices in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Ms. Johnson is an authority in change management, government relations, community organizing, health and supportive services, long-term care, transportation, livable communities, housing, diversity and volunteerism. Prior to relocating to Washington, DC in 2011, she led AARP’s outreach efforts in Alabama. She previously served as Executive Director of Governor Bob Riley’s “Task Force to Strengthen Alabama Families.” This initiative focused on redesigning the state’s health and human service delivery system. She led the task force to create the Camellia website, a benefits-eligibility screening tool. She worked to establish family service centers in each of Alabama’s 67 counties to simplify access to care for residents in both rural and urban areas.

Ms. Johnson is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and formerly worked as a reporter for a Gannett newspaper. She holds a BA in journalism and English from Louisiana Tech University and an MPA from Troy State University. She received her certification in Corporate Executive Leadership from Georgetown University and designation as an International Certified Professional Facilitator from the International Association of Facilitators. She is the former co-chair of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Health Equity Council (Region III).
