Region III - Mid-Atlantic Regional Health Equity Council 

Mission: To inform and strengthen programs, practices, policies and services that contribute to achieving better health for all within Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia by eliminating health disparities, addressing the determinants of health, and stimulating communities to empower themselves. 

Vision: A nation free of disparities in health and health care. 

Priority Areas: 
  • yNPA: Increase outreach and education in ACA to youth, who attend universities/colleges and those involved in public health 
  • CLAS Standards: Promote utilization and implementation of CLAS Standards 
  • Health Equity in all Policies: Inclusion of Health Equity into all policies 
  • ACA Outreach and Awareness: Promote and Increase education and awareness in ACA
Mid-Atlantic Health Equity Council Health Equity Hero Award Call for Nominations

The nomination period for the Mid-Atlantic Health Equity Council Health Equity Hero Award is now open. This award highlights the exemplary achievement of the individuals that support community efforts in the goal of ending health disparities and promoting health equity. 

Nominees can be health care providers, advocates, administrators, clinicians or policy makers. Volunteers and individuals that work to improve health equity and whose efforts make a difference in communities are unsung heroes that deserve to be recognized and honored. 

The award ceremony will take place in December. Nominees for the Health Equity Hero Award should demonstrate: 
  1. Excellence and serve as visible leader working in the community to drive change by promoting multi-sector collaboration and ensuring accountability and transparency; 
  2. Commitment to eliminating health disparities by addressing one or more social determinants of health through the use of asset-based and innovative approaches to meet needs and build community; and 
  3. Improvement in the lives or experiences of others that is both measurable and replicable.
